Frequently Asked Questions

1.  About Teacherality

What is Teacherality?
Founded in 2007, Teacherality is a professional development organization created by educators for educators to help teachers recapture, protect and celebrate their passion for teaching. At the heart of Teacherality is a series of content-rich seminars called Teacherality Signature Teas. Their purpose is to help educators find a healthier balance between the physical and emotional demands of teaching, and their own beliefs about what it means to be the best educator possible.

How did Teacherality get started?
Teacherality was created by Pam Gordon, a former teacher and principal, and Carole Jacobs, a communications and training expert. Together they came to a simple but powerful realization: that for educators to nurture the spirits of their students, they need to nurture their own spirits first. Focusing on the critical “Three R’s”, Teacherality’s mission is to provide an “antidote” for burnout by helping educators to: (1) Reconnect to the passion that called them to teach; (2) Reenergize their commitment to being the best educator possible; and (3) Restore their sense of balance and resiliency.

Is Teacherality a non-profit organization?
Teacherality is not a non-profit organization. The Registration and Materials fee is considered taxable income and goes to growing and strengthening the Teacherality mission by paying for development costs, teacher training, and office and website expenses.

Teacherality abides by all tax laws and files quarterly income tax returns with the IRS. It does not have non-profit tax exemption status.

How can I participate?
Teacherality is made available through District sponsorship and directly to teachers. This program is designed to fulfill the requirements of Continuing Education and/or up to 2 semester hours of Graduate Level Credit.

To find out if Teacherality is available through your school, contact your Staff Development department. If Teacherality is not part of your school district’s professional development platform, please let us know. Together, we can bring this vitally important program to you and your colleagues.

Teacherality is also offered directly to teachers. To find out if there is an active group in your community, please contact us. If there isn’t, why not start a Teacherality group of your own? All you need is a dedicated Curator (you or another specially trained educator) and 5-7 of your colleagues. Give us a call and we’ll show you how we’ve made it easy for teachers to support teachers with this unique and refreshing program.

What does it cost to participate?
There are two fees associated with Teacherality.

First, there is an annual Registration and Materials fee of $50 (US$). This fee is used to give back to you by funding the cost of curriculum and program development, your personal Teacherality Journal, Curator training, the Teacherality quarterly newsletter, website maintenance, continuing education and graduate level credit administration, and other services.

Second, there is a $25 per session fee to attend Teacherality Teas. This fee, which is paid directly to your Curator, helps to defray the cost of bringing you each Signature Tea. Teacherality LLC does not benefit from these fees.

Do I have to be a teacher to participate?
You don’t have to be a teacher to participate in Teacherality, but you must be part of an educational organization. The reason is simple: Teacherality is about sharing the joys and challenges of being an educator – and learning from each other.

Does Teacherality run on a school year or on a calendar basis?
Teacherality is designed to be flexible. Although the program consists of 9 separate Signature Teas, they can be delivered by your Curator according to the specific needs of your group.

How do I receive Teacherality Treasures, the Teacherality newsletter?

2.  About Teacherality Curators

What are Curators?
Curators are specially trained educators who host and deliver Teacherality Signature Teas. They play a pivotal role in helping educators make meaningful change toward recapturing and protecting their passion for teaching. We use the term “Curator” because our mission is to help educators “treasure” their passion for teaching – just like a curator in a museum. As a Teacherality Curator, their mission is to guard and protect our national treasure – the educators who are responsible for the learning experiences of young people across the globe.

How do I become a Curator?
Teacherality Curators attend a two-day Curator Training program. This content-rich, fun-packed training program provides everything you need to start your own Teacherality group with confidence. Specifically, you will be trained in group facilitation skills and the Teacherality Balance Model™ – our proven process for encouraging meaningful change. You will also be given instruction for how to prepare for and host a Teacherality Signature Tea, including recipe preparation and creating an honoring environment for teachers.

Becoming a Curator is requires an investment in yourself. Curators pay a one-time training fee of $500, which covers the cost of the Curator training and access to nine Teacherality curriculum guides, and marketing and support materials. This curriculum is used as the basis for the Teacherality Signature Teas you host in your home or other appropriate venue. Depending on the number of Teacherality Signature Teas you host, you can quickly recover this cost and earn incremental income through the $25 (US$) per session fee you collect directly from participants.

If you are interested in learning more, please go to www.Teacherality.com and click on Contact Us. A member of the Teacherality staff will contact you directly to discuss Curator training.

How often does Teacherality meet?
Curators set their own schedules but generally speaking, most Teacherality groups meet monthly. Some Curators schedule their Teacherality Signature Teas for late afternoon; others during the evenings or on weekends. That’s one of the things that makes Teacherality easy: you get to organize your Teacherality Signature Teas in the way that makes sense for you and your participants.

How many educators may I have in a group?
Teacherality Signature Teas are designed for groups of 5-7 educators. This number isn’t arbitrary: studies have shown that adults learn best in smaller groups. Because Teacherality is built on a platform of shared experience, it’s important that each participants has enough time to participate and feel comfortable doing so. We’ve found that five-to-six educators is the perfect number to make this happen.

Is there a Curator section to the website?
There is. The password-protected Curator section holds important information to help you with your Teacherality Signature Teas. This includes printable versions of each Teacherality Curriculum Guide, marketing flyers and invitations and other tools to help you make the most of your experience as a Curator.

I forgot my password to enter the Curator section of the website. What should I do?
If you do not recall your individual password, simply click here or on the "Retrieve password" link on the bottom right-hand corner of the Curator Resources login page and it will be sent to your e-mail address. If you also forgot your user ID, please send us an email.
